Peninsula HK takes a trip down Memory Lane

Over the years, The Peninsula Hong Kong has been the venue and source of many fond, poignant, and even funny moments for their guests. With a history dating back to the 1920s, this Grand Old Lady has experienced many interesting times, and she is now inviting guests to submit their stories through The Peninsula’s “My Favourite Memory at The Peninsula” Contest.

From 1 May through 31 July 2010, guests are encouraged to write a short essay or share a photograph or video detailing their interesting or unique story that has taken place at The Peninsula Hong Kong.

All submitted entries will be judged based on creativity and overall appeal as well as its ability to express the favourite memory or experience. The four most memorable stories will win:

• One pair of roundtrip Business Class tickets between Hong Kong and Zurich on Swiss
International Air Lines
• A set lunch for two at Chesa, The Peninsula Hong Kong’s Swiss restaurant
• Four cocktails at Salon de Ning, The Peninsula Hong Kong’s elegant lounge

Entry forms can be obtained from all of The Peninsula Hong Kong’s nine restaurants and bars and The Peninsula Spa by ESPA or downloaded from website starting 1 May. Submission of entries can be made  by mailed to the Sales and Marketing Department, The Peninsula Hong Kong, Salisbury Road, Kowloon, Hong Kong. Deadline for entry is 31 July 2010.

The Peninsula Hong Kong and Swiss International Air Lines have teamed up on several occasions in the past and most recently offered an exceptional culinary experience for passengers flying on SWISS flights from Hong Kong to Zurich. Selected dishes, created by The Peninsula’s Executive Chef, Florian Trento, have been served in SWISS’ First and Business Class cabins starting in September 2009 and until September 2010.

The “SWISS Taste of Switzerland” is a culinary concept that began in 2002, and features food, wine and other regional specialties from different cantons in Switzerland. After many years of success, SWISS is expanding the concept to an outstation and The Peninsula is SWISS’ first partner.

“Good morning Korea, Good morning Vietnam” exhibition


Korean ExhibitionThe event introduces 43 large-sized paintings by 11 Vietnamese and 11 Korean artists. The paintings showcase a variety of mediums such as oil on canvas, lacquer, silk, water-colour and wood.

Korean artists attending the exhibition are all members of the Korean Art Association in different ages and most of them love Vietnam.

The exhibition is being organized by the Korean Culture Centre in Vietnam, the Korean Art Association and the Vietnam Art Museum, at the Vietnam Art Museum in Hanoi.

Vietnam gears up to host Mrs World 2009

Mrs World President David Marmel and CIAT Company Chairwoman Doan Thi Kim Hong signed an agreement in HCMC on July 22.

More than 100 contestants around the globe are expected to participate in the event that is organised annually to honour beautiful and successful married women.

The Mrs World pageant crown, worth USD 100,000 will be funded by the Huy Hoang Company.

Vice Chairman of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial People’s Committee and head of the organising board, Vo Thanh Ky, said the contest will be a valuable chance for Vietnam and the province to promote people, culture, land, tourism and economic achievements to the world.

Mrs World 2007 Diane Tucker is now on a visit to Vietnam to join charity activities and present VND 60 million as gift to the Vietnam Women’s Union and the province’s study promotion association.

Vietnam successfully hosted Miss Universe 2008 in mid-July in central Khanh Hoa Province. The country will host Miss World in 2010.

Vietnamese paintings join art exhibition in China


The “Dancing” lacquer painting of Nguyen Dinh Tai, the “Yesterday’s story” oil-painting of Nguyen Quoc Huy and the “New century” oil-painting of Tran Quoc Huy have been selected for the “East Asia Vision” exhibition together with more than 60 entries of famous painters from East Asian countries.

The exhibition, organised by the Chinese Ministry of Culture, the General Department of Broadcasting, Film and Television and the Olympics Beijing Committee, will last until the end of August 30, 2008.
