Vietnamese gastronomy week held in Macau


vietnamese gastronomyAddressing the event, Vietnamese Consul General to Hong Kong and Macau Pham Cao Phong said he hoped the event would help boost exchanges between Vietnam and Macau.

Several Vietnamese cooks and traditional music bands are performing at the event, together with activities to introduce Vietnamese people and landscape, including famous tourism sites.

Macau has been a potential labour market for Vietnam. At present, about 5,000 Vietnamese workers are working there.

Vietnam tourismThe reporters from the National Geographic, CNN Traveller, Lifestyle Travel Asia, Business Traveller, The Improper will make field trips major tourism destinations such as Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Danang, Hoi An, Halong Bay.

According to Director General Department of International Cooperation Nguyen Van Tinh, the department division has so far welcomed more than 10 groups of foreign reporters and televisions to make films on Vietnamese culture and tourism.

The department will push up promotion campaigns on Vietnam’s landscapes and heritages, and the “Impressive Vietnam” campaign on the world leading tourism journals, including UNESCO’s World Heritage, Jestar Aviation, and Asta of the US Association of travelling agents, Tinh said.

Japan helps rebuild ancient Hue Palace

Rebuild ancient HueThe project, developed by Japan’s Waseda University and Hue Monuments Conservation Centre, is part of a programme begun in 1998 to research and preserve the historical and cultural heritage of Hue Citadel.

At the conference on August 13 to report the programme’s results during 1998-2008 in Hue City, more than 100 scientists and researchers from local and foreign organisations including the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, the university and the centre also drew the plan for rebuilding the palace.

The Can Chanh Palace, built in 1804 during the Nguyen Dynasty, was where the emperor met his courts, the public and ambassadors from other countries. It was the Tu Cam Thanh (forbidden Citadel)’s largest and most beautiful palace.

Court music strikes renewed chord


Court music Researcher Trinh Bach, who is a royal descendant, also restored a loom used to weave silk threads.

In the project, run by the Relics Conservation Centre, profiles on Nha Nhac costumes and orchestral instruments were compiled and more than 1,000 documents written during the Nguyen Dynasty were collected and are now kept in newly established archives.

As part of the project, 20 instrumentalists received formal training in Nha Nhac, while more than 100 practitioners and mentors were trained in art conservation.

Dozens of performances were held both inside and outside the country to promote Nha Nhac.

The successful restoration of Thai Binh Co Nhac, a royal performance of drums, was one of the highlights of the project, according to officials. The project cost USD 350,000, of USD which 155,000 was donated by the Japan’s Trust Fund via UNESCO.
