International cruiser berths in Halong Bay

Halong Bay CruiseHalong Bay has so far this year welcomed three cruisers with more than 2,300 holiday-makers, mainly from Europe, the US and the Republic of Korea.

Hanoi and Halong Bay has been selected by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism’s promotion programme as two destinations of the national tourism year 2010.

Quang Ninh strives to welcome 5.2 million tourists, including 2.4 million foreign visitors and attain a profit of VND3 trillion this year.

To the target, Quang Ninh Province will promote the heritage’s preservation and management as well as trade promotion. The province is calling for all economic sectors to join in cooperation for tourism development and create new tourism products.

Country’s first jade pagoda to be built


The jade pagoda will cover about 2ha at an expected cost of VND60 billion collected from Buddhist followers. The pagoda will comprise two floors designed totally in jade and a spacious area to serve worshipping practices of pilgrims and visits of tourists.

The Quan The Am Festival is not only a religious festival of Buddhism but also a national folk festival associated with the legends of Ngu Hanh Son sanctuary’s establishment, the history of Bodhisattva and the founder of Non Nuoc Fine Art Stone Village.

The highlights of the festival include the exhibition of a jade painting named “One-Pillar Pagoda”, dance shows and a stone sculpturing contest.

Vietnam attends ASEAN fair in Mexico

Asian fair in MexicoThe ASEAN trade fair displayed a wide range of handicraft products, traditional dishes. In addition, art programs from the participating countries were performed during the fair.

This is an annual event co-organised by ASEAN countries, Mexico and Central America to raise funds for educational organisations and poor women in Mexico.

Last year’s event raised nearly US$1.500 to support a Vietnamese school in Mexico and a fund for poor Mexican women.

Reporters disseminate information on Hanoi
At the meeting, Vice Chairwoman of Hanoi People’s Committee, Ngo Thi Thanh Hang, expressed her belief that the presence of international reporters in Hanoi will introduce this major national event to countries around the world. During their stay from September 9-15, the delegation of reporters will have an opportunity to visit prominent places in Hanoi including the Thang Long Royal Citadel, and the Temple of Literature. They will also visit some craft villages and historic relics such as Son Tay Ancient Citadel, Duong Lam Ancient Village, Van Phuc Silk Village and Bat Trang Ceramic Village. In addition, they will work with some outstanding businesses to promote investment, trade and tourism opportunities. Ms Hang said that Hanoi now has 300 three and five-star hotels and thousands of small hotels to meet the demand of tourism. Being selected as the focus of National Tourism Year 2010, Hanoi now has many programmes and tourism products to attract international visitors.
